About the Author

A one-time cartoonist, Ed Brubaker has been working as a writer since the early 1990s, and in that time his work has won several awards, including both the Harvey and Eisner Awards for Best Writer in 2007, and has been translated around the world. His comics credits include Batman, Catwoman, Gotham Central, and Sleeper for DC Comics and Daredevil, Captain America, and Criminal for Marvel. He lives and works in Seattle, Washington, with his wife, Melanie, and many pets.

Jock is the three times New York Times best-selling British artist best known for his comics work with writer Andy Diggle on DC/Vertigo's The Losers, the award-winning Batman: The Black Mirror, and Wytches with writer Scott Snyder. Jock has also produced key art and concept design for films including Dredd, Annihilation, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the Oscar-winning Ex Machina. The main story of "Batman: The Man Who Laughs: The Deluxe Edition" is great. It is a solid origin story for the Joker and Brubaker did a great job in capturing the essence of the Clown Prince of Crime. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I liked how it was consistent in its pacing and tone. The art was well done also. I like how Brubaker wrote from both Batman's POV and Gordon's POV also. My only complaint about the story was that the ending was a bit rushed. But, it captured Batman's struggle (to keep himself from killing the Joker) well. I like how it showed Batman's detective skills also and the art was good too.

The "Batman: Gotham: Noir" story was a good one as well. It showed a side of Jim Gordon that I am not used to seeing - an alcoholic ex-cop. However, it makes sense to me, given all that he has seen and been through over his career. One thing that I didn't see quite working out was that Bruce Wayne served in the military as well (given his aversion to guns), but it is an Elseworlds story, so it's not too much of a big deal to me. I liked the mystery, tension, and stakes throughout. The pacing was solid as well. The dialogue was good as was the art. There was one long scene of exposition (and probably could have been shown rather than recounted to Batman), but it provided good backstory and tied everything to the present.

"Made of Wood" is a good story as well. There was a bit of jumping back and forth between scenes and flashbacks - and I personally, am not a fan of having more than two POVs in a story. Nonetheless, I like the mystery in this one as well. It kept me intrigued. It was cool seeing Batman and Green Lantern working together and using each other's strengths, especially the latter's powers and the former's skills as a detective (as with the other two stories, I enjoyed the detective work too). The ending and pacing were good as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed all three stories and recommend this book.

A well written introduction to the Joker that shows how terrifying the clown prince of crime can be without getting too edgy. The inclusion of “Gotham: Noir” and “Made of wood” make this deluxe edition more than worth the money, as both stories are well written and fun to read.

Mais uma vez o maior vilão do Batman mostrando porque é o maior. O homem que ri traz um Coringa completamente maluco e uma trama enigmática, frenética, com imagens assustadoras, body horror e claro, muitas risadas macabras. A edição deluxe traz ainda mais 2 histórias bem diferentes mas que também foram muito cativantes, uma mais centrada no Comissário Gordon e uma Gotham Noir, o design do Batman nessa história é muito legal, não passando de uma sobra preta, mas que mesmo assim tem um impacto na história, mesmo sendo coadjuvante. A segunda traz o Lanterna Verde do Alan Scott juntamente com o Batman revisitando um trauma do passado, uma história que realça o lado detetive do Bruce e que é muito boa mesmo (e foi meu primeiro contato com o Alan nos quadrinhos, gostei muito!).
