Batman/Superman (2013-2016) Vol. 3: Second Chance Kindle & comiXology

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 80 ratings

Batman and Superman: the two greatest heroes the world has ever known. Surely, together, there’s no menace they can’t face.

A microscopic planet so small it can float in a person’s veins. A Doomsday-infected Superman. A time-traveling chaos demon. The onslaught of threats is putting the pressure on the world’s finest. But when a rescue mission goes wrong, both heroes awake as blank slates, all memory erased.

Now Gotham City is faced with a Superman without his moral compass and a Batman without his vendetta. Without the two super heroes to rely on, who remains to remind them who they truly are?

In BATMAN/SUPERMAN: SECOND CHANCE, acclaimed writer Greg Pak (ACTION COMICS) and a bevy of comics’ best artists including Jae Lee, Karl Kerschl, Marc Deering and Diogenes Neves set Batman and Superman on a collision course...but will either hero emerge unscathed? Collects issues #10-15.

Really good story. Having Batman and Superman lose their memories was well written, if a little too short. The only complaint I have is the art. I just don't think it truly captures the scale of the story, especially the art by Jae Lee. To me his art seems bland and the men look feminine, mainly their faces.

A challenge to maneuver all of the twists and double backs and " who was he again?" " And who am I? "
good stuff. Really good.

Love getting my graphic novels from Amazon. Speedy delivery and never have to worry about the condition of the book. Great story and artwork for this must have from the New 52 storylines. I have most graphic novels from that era. This is one of the best. It's real fun. Hope this helps.

Much like Vol. 2, the biggest complaint is that the art isn't Jae Lee all the way through. Unlike Vol. 2, there is another complaint related to its structure- the book is all over the place. There's a great short story by Jeff Lemire that feels totally outside what Greg Pak is doing and some other single issue stories as well as an issue from the Doomed story arc. None of these pieces are bad- in fact, they're fantastic and the Doomed story arc in its complete form is one of the best Superman stories of all time- but they make this volume whole in the same way as Vol. 1, nowhere close. As chaotic and piecemeal as the structure is, the book is still better than most trades as Greg Pak and guest writer Jeff Lemire write great stories and the artists working with them do great work- especially Jae Lee and June Chung who only do one issue in this collection together (though Chung colors a couple of issues with other pencillers that borrow a bit from Jae Lee's style).

Also, there's some naked Superman in this one if that's what you're looking for.

Batman/Superman, by Greg Pak, continues to be a fun book. The structure of the comic allows for big and/or personal stories between Superman and Batman that couldn't really happen in their own books, let alone the Justice League.

This particular collection, Second Chance, contains three separate stories. The first story concerns Superman and Ray Palmer shrinking to enter Batman's brain and save him. It is very Fantastic Voyage-ish. The second story brings back Koiya, the Chaos-Bringer. She offers Batman and Superman a chance to change one thing from the past, at the time they visited Earth-2 during Darkseid's attack. There choices prove to be interesting.

Finally, the last story proves to be the most interesting (and the artwork by Jae Lee is terrific). It spins out of the encounter with Koiya, and leaves our heroes back home but without their memories. Clark Kent encounters Catwoman and Bruce Wayne meets Lois Lane. What follows is a look at what makes a hero, and if the memories make the man. There is a particularly poignant scene with Bruce Wayne that perfectly captures the sacrifices heroes make.

I really enjoy Batman/Superman, and Vol. 3: Second Chances is no exception. I still believe Vol. 1 set the bar extremely high, but the latest stories still rank pretty high. I recommend this to fans of Batman and Superman, and to fans looking for a fun read.

I received a preview copy of this book from DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic title. Be warned the art by Jae Lee is very unique so you might be best to Google his art first before buying - would highly recommend though!

I genuinely believe that batman and superman fans would love this series. This volume's story-line was rather better in comparison to the previous one and the art style is still great. I still recommend giving this comic a read!
