A Batman story by Peter J. Tomasi is always good. He is one of the best writers in comics, especially Batman. This story is well told and very interesting. I loved seeing some of the people from Bruce's past appear, especially some of which I've never seen before.
I don't really care for Doug Mahnke's art, it seems to have gone down in terms of quality over the years. It's okay, the story more than makes up for it.

The main Bat title tells the in-continuity story of Batman and it shapes the current status quo of the character. Detective Comics is kind of like a supplement. If you do not want to read it, it is ok, you don't miss what is happening with Batman. I read a bit into the 2nd volume so I can say that the stories are pretty self contained so you could read reviews and synopsis before picking it up.

Back to my review, Tomasi did really strong character work in Batman and Robin in the new 52 and you could see him at his best here. While I felt Batman and Robin had villains and climaxes that felt weak, all that seems to be rectified here.

This first issue tells the story about Batman being attacked by an unseen foe. Immediately in the first issue, the stakes are high and glued me to the edge of my seat. The story does not slow down and I really had to finish this book in one sitting. I must say the ending wasn't expected but it shows you a deeper expect of Batman that you don't see in the main Bat title.

I would highly recommend this title and series to anyone who is a fan of Batman and for those who read Tomasi's Batman and Robin, this is a must have. Otherwise, casual fans could just pick up stories they are interested in. This first volume I could say was pretty interesting. You don't wanna miss this.

But I liked it. Art was very good. Batman is an odd duck. A heroic and fascinating duck, to be sure. I doubt he would care much for being called a duck..

I think this book does not gets the credit it deserves. I get why people had a tough time with the it. Doesn’t change the status quo, blah blah blah. But here is what you do get with the book. You get great art and a very entertaining and well written story. You also get crazy moments that push Batman’s emotional limits. I personally loved this book. And I’m very excited to see what’s next for Tomasi’s run with Detective Comics.

Was a good read in my opinion. I am sad that this run had to end. Good art too. The story was entertaining.

In an ever-darkening and dour world filled with Tom Kings and Scott Snyders, Peter Tomasi and Doug Manhke bring the Dark Knight back to his roots! Solid pacing, fun, interesting, and in-character, Bruce Wayne faces his past (in more ways than one) as the world's greatest detective! Can't wait to see where these two comic legends will take us next!

Spoilers ahead

Batman is under attack from a monster who takes many forms and is intent on killing all his friends and mentors.A
Anyone who had a hand in making batman is in danger.
Alas it's all a high way to nothing .
Batsy goes around stomping on various bat villains one after another on the assumption one of them must be the culprit.
The coldly logical detective is no where to be found in this story when he brutally beats the inmates of arkham on the of chance there behind this plot.
The ending is one of the most cliched hackneyed conclusion I've read in a long time.

It was all a dream???reallly??
