This first chapter of a war between two of Batman's deadliest foes got off to a stunning start. The narrative, as told by Batman himself, is absorbing from the first panel to the last, while the artwork is a feast for the eyes.

The only disappointment for me was the inexplicable failure by this talented creative team to explain why Batman would be telling the woman he just proposed to about one of his cases without first waiting for her to respond to his proposal.

Just as mysterious is why Catwoman would change out of her catsuit and into "something more comfortable" to be with the man that just proposed to her without telling him whether she wanted to share her life with him as well as her bed.

I think the new story arc would have worked better if Batman had first told Catwoman his story, then proposed to her, rather than the other way around.

That said, this issue is well-worth the time and money to read it. However, if, like this reader, you are still on tenterhooks to hear Catwoman's answer to Batman's momentous proposal, it's going to be a long summer.

This is the launch of a brand new story arc. As you can probably tell, it involves both the Joker and the Riddler. This is the first time either have appeared in the Rebirth. Will they take partners or enemies? One thing is certain though. They both hate Batman and the war is on.

Set up the arc really well. King is setting himself to join the caliber of Scott Snyder if he keeps it up.
