It's no surprise that Dixon would write a good story but this is an absolutely pitch perfect telling of this story. The art, dialogue, lettering, layout, nobody could ask for more. Comics like they should be.

Great reprint, but be aware this story is from 2003, the print date shows 2020. It's a nice oversized edition, but the story was from a while ago. I had already read the original story, so I was disappointed when I received it and it was the reprint. Other than that it's a great book.

There are a whole series of these for most of the main characters of the Batman comics. Batgirl is my favorite and this edition did not disappoint. I still have a hard time with some of the details that were changed for reboot in the 1980's but Batgirl will always be one of my favorite comic book stars and this was a great way to read so much in one place.

Liked how it was a Batgirl story first and used Batman and Robin as supporting characters. Loved the villain dynamic here as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this account of Batgirl’s origin and first adventures. Marcos Martin’s art was great and Snyder and Dixon’s choice of the B-list villain Mothman was odd at first humane perfect sense as the story developed and grew darker. The chronology seemed a bit off but I just let it go.
Barbara Gordon’s motive for becoming Batgirl seemed not quite developed but the story was a ripping yarn so who cares.
Highly recommended.

I like Batgirl as a character a lot, and there's a lot this book does right. But it has long periods of down moments that don't quite do it for me

I could not be more pleased. The item arrived promptly, and even more importantly for me, it was in its original shrink-wrap. There have been a number of occasions in the past where I purchased a brand new graphic novel that I knew should’ve been in shrink-wrap and yet it was not, so I thank you for that, Amazon.

A great book. Good story, fitting artwork, action, and character development. I like that Batgirl makes mistakes and that she shows her potential by learning and correcting them.

Barbara Gordon is not a little girl anymore. She is sick of her job in the library but one job that she wants is the one job her father Captain Gordon will do everything in his power yo make sure she does not do.

I like that Barbara gas yo prove herself, to everyone and herself. She uses expectations placed on her and turned then to her advantage. I fairness I though it was a good idea to give her a softer introduction to the Gotham super-villian community. Especially as we all know what happens later.

Great book, and introduction to the original Batgirl. The book finishes with a cover gallery and a sketchbook.

Serves a good origin story for Batgirl. It has an overall light-hearted tone amidst the crazed violence depicted that takes you on a joyride.

If you love Batgirl, you'll find in that book a great origin story. Her ups and downs but most of all, her determination to do good. I wish there were more of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars There’s a new Bat in town

I have no idea how I missed this first time round, which incredibly now is 20 years ago, but this is an outstanding piece of work.
Batgirl has always been a character I have a fondness for, but no great love of, she has always just come over as a derivative of another character (guess who).

The strength of this 9 part story is that it doesn’t shy away from that, it actually incorporates that into the narrative, and makes it all make logical sense. Scott Beatty and Chuck Dixon write the hell out of this one, with perfect characterisation of characters at the beginning of their careers, superb dialogue to boot.
The story, focusing on Killer Moth and Firefly, is actually just the excuse for visiting this time period to see whom these people were.

at least as good, if not actually even better, is the art by Marcos Martin and Alvaro Lopez (plus perfect colours by Javier Rodriguez). It has a gorgeous retro timeless quality, much like Darwyn Cooke's work. Just a thing of beauty to look at.

Books like this are what comics were intended for. Outstanding.

The most glorious use of colour I've seen in a book. The plot, characterisation, humour, action, artwork, lettering, etc., they're all so fresh and wonderful too. This is my first Batgirl book, and if you're a fan of Batman, you might love this just as much too. Condiment King!
