Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Children of the Atom go to war in the ultimate super-hero showdown! The world-destroying Phoenix Force is back — and while the Avengers are intent on stopping it, Cyclops and his X-Men have other ideas. To Captain America, the Phoenix threatens doom. To Cyclops, it could mean salvation. Marvel’s two greatest leaders wage war, with the Phoenix’s chosen host — Hope Summers — caught in the middle. How far are both sides willing to go? Avenges vs X-men. Earth's Mightiest heroes vs The Children of the Atom with the Phoenix in the middle. This is the fight we never thought we wanted but we got and I’m glad we did. I always wanted to know why Hope Summers was so important and this book answers that question. Wolverine is caught in the middle; he is a mutant and an Avenger plus he is a school teacher. What will he do? read to find out. The cast is huge, the stakes are higher than ever, we get Wanda, Vision, Magneto, Quicksilver, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America. The fights are great, Cap vs Cyclops, Iron Man vs Magneto, Luke Cage and the Thing vs Namor. And then to top it all off Professor X will have to face the Phoenix Five. 100% you will love this huge comic.

I know 'epic' is an over used word but it is the most apt description for this trade. This is the next big event to follow X-Men Schism (an important read that answers a lot of initial questions about Cyclops and Wolverine) and it does not disappoint! When I heard the title it was immediately apparent that I had to read it, but with how many separate comic series the 12 part crossover event would be in, the AvX collected volume was definitely the best option. I went into this book honestly expecting a slightly predictable story arc that would feature intense battles between the Avengers and X-Men teams that would likely end up in the two mutant factions joining back up and eventually lead to the Avengers and X-Men teams joining forces against a common foe...but what i found within the pages of this trade was so much more! Though (mild spoilers follow) some X-Men members seemed to reconcile, and some of earth's mightiest heroes did team up with the children of the atom, the overall story arc was so much deeper and broader scoped than I ever imagined. This story split certain factions on both sides so far apart and pushed the characters so close to the breaking point, that with the turn of every page, I feared there wouldn't be enough left to complete the story. The further in I got, the faster i had to read, and yet at the same time, I wanted the trade to last forever. The battles are climactic and the story is the epitome of bittersweet. Filled with sacrifice, heroism, altruism, malice, spite, fear, and anger, nearly every major character in the Marvel Universe gets a chance to shine and move the story forward. Bendis in my opinion is changing the face of Marvel while balancing the characters chronology and core with delicate strokes of genius, and this is the event that really churns Marvel U's waters into a full blown tempest.
If you're a fan of the X-Men, the Avengers, Marvel characters, or really superheros in general, this trade is a must have! Following the Schism trade, this event is a great starting point for the modern era of Marvel comics.
I also suggest purchasing the AvX Consequences trade.

Great event but you must read a few books that help you understand how you get to this point. I would recommend Messiah Complex, Messiah War and Second Coming to give you a better understanding of this event(read in that order). But the event itself is top notch, to see Cycolps go off the deep end was sad but enthralling. You see similarities of what he is trying to do here and what Cable(his son) tries to do in Cable and Deadpool. This is a great example of how the road to hell is paved with good intentions. A great book but I can't give it five stars due to the fact that you need to read a fair amount to understand the circumstances leading to this event

Just read this for the 1st time a full decade after it came out. Always thought it was just a gimmick but the story was way better than I thought. Some of my underrated favorites like Colossus and Hawkeye really shine! Highly recommend!

Avengers vs X-men might just sound like a good way to sell more comics, but it, and the other two titles in the trilogy, I have two of them, need the last one though it really is just a feast for the eyes and it makes you thinks as well. It's T+ so it's nice and violent, bit of language but in fits right in, i mean if a building is falling on you your going to swear not just say oh drat. Sorry, got off topic there for a minute, bottum line, buy this GN and the other 2, you will like them alot if your a big Avengers fan or X-men or both.

Wonderfully beautiful art work great story

Amazing story! There was only one small let down towards the middle of the arc. Something that could've been a ton of fun to play out but it seemed like it was there to kill time. Other than that I was wholly invested. I personally sided with the X-Men. They seemed to be guilty before anything even happened which seemed really odd considering what Cap and the other avengers had been through with the Hulk. All in all though so much fun, a must read!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ich persönlich war enttäuscht
Reviewed in Germany on January 19, 2020

Er will Hope mitnehmen. Cyclops
sagt nein.

Finale.

Superb. The artstyle by John Romita jr is annoying but it stops just in time for the Phoenix Five arc. The story is great, the ending has real weight and changes the X men as a whole. The only other title needed to really understand this is House of M.
