About the Author

Yusei Matsui was born on the last day of January in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He has been drawing manga since he began elementary school. Some of his favorite manga series are Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Ultimate Muscle. Matsui learned his trade working as an assistant to manga artist Yoshio Sawai, creator of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. In 2005, Matsui debuted his original manga Neuro: Supernatural Detective in Weekly Shonen Jump. In 2007, Neuro was adapted into an anime. In 2012, Assassination Classroom began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Strong Volume, Strong Plot Movement

Volume 7 concludes the exam arc and the first semester as well as introduces us to the first major assassination attempt from Class 3E. It is a really fantastic volume which really moves the series forward. The comedy is on point as well as some slight motions of some emotion regarding a few of the characters. For example Chiba and Hayami with the watery eyes and breaking under pressure or Karma-kun with his exam performance, and even extending to some of the antagonists, Irinia and Asano. Its really a strong volume and vastly memorable and one which remains strong compared to the ones previously released.

Saiki Kusuo x Assassination Classroom one shot was translated for this which was a treat. It will probably be the only time we see Saiki Kusuo in english sadly. Additionally the afterword was translated. It is a good product.

I've been awfully critical of Viz's translator for this series in my reviews of the previous volumes because I own all the Japanese volumes and I love this series, but in this volume, the translator does a really good job. It's still not as good as the translation of volume five because he slips up in a few places, but it's definitely better than volumes one through four and six. My biggest complaint with the translation lies in the chapter titles, which I still believe should just be "~ Time" or "Time to/for ~" for reasons I've given in a previous review. Other than that, though, the translation was really good this time around.

Story content? It's Assassination Classroom, so it's fantastic, of course.
