Roddy Rodent is a mouse that works with a group of pediatricians and scientists to understand why children get sick and to find cures to make them healthy again. In the "Ask Roddy" series, using simplified but accurately medical language children will understand how their bodies work, how to fight diseases and stay healthy. These books will help children understand the science behind common diseases, cope with their symptoms and stay healthy. In volume 3 children will learn about how the body uses glucose (a kind of sugar) as a source of energy for their daily activities and how insulin allows the glucose to enter the brain, heart, and muscles for them to be able to learn, run and play. Roddy will teach them about diabetes, a common disease characterized by abnormal amounts of sugar in your blood and how to eat healthy food to overcome this disease and stay strong.
