The first series, despite its faults and the fact that it was largely built around one joke, benefited from broad humour to some extent.
This second series takes itself too seriously. So the awkward writing, lack of cohesive storytelling, etc, wear really thin.
Ultimately, the entire point of the series seems to be that the classic Betty and Veronica, sad about being forgotten to history due to their growing irrelevance, find relevance by deciding they are lesbians. And, in the meantime, largely ignore all the duplicates of their friends being slaughtered around them. The message itself is a bit mixed since the two are seen raising the Devil and getting his blessing. As far as I'm concerned, the series is little more than an expression of contempt for the classic characters and their fans.
