America Chavez: Made In The USA (America Chavez: Made In The USA (2021)) Kindle & comiXology
America Chavez is incredible — her origins, her strength, her dimension-shattering star portals! But when the foundation of everything she believes is shaken, America must stand up and confront the parts of herself she’s been running from. Her life is about to be shattered into a million pieces by a mysterious adversary. When her tormentor is revealed, their face will be shocking, to say the least — but it’s what they reveal that will rock her world. And then? It’s just a matter of whether or not to believe them. From writer Kalinda Vazquez (Marvel’s Runaways) and artist Carlos Gómez (AMAZING MARY JANE) comes an explosive, brand-new story all about what made America Chavez who she is — and what she’ll do to protect the ones she loves.

Now all of that out of the way the good of the series is Kalinda Vazquez. She wrote a new origin story that has more thought to it and breaks down the ridiculousness original origin showing how bad it was. I imagine it was done to make the character more accessible and able to be understood for those who watch Doctor Strange 2 but doesn't mean she didn't do a great job.
Carlos Gomez has done beautiful work and isn't afraid to make women look like females compared to many recent marvel characters. (cite how Carol Danvers went from Ms Marvel to butch captain marvel now or she hulk though even she has returned to her old design thankfully). All of the discourse he got made me want to support him and he does well so I am glad to spend the money and hope he stays making appealing characters.
The story is alright, not great but workable, this needs more issues, more of a solid run then possibly just a short. It is one of the few recent comics that is not a collected hardcover omnibus that I have bought because recent marvel and DC have been so lackluster.
Lazy writing (common), or editorial pressure?
America's past was retconned, but why?
I am guessing it came from the hope of reviving the character, but also hoping that making her life political and diverse will somehow make money.
I have enjoyed America in the past, and the story in general is fun, while the art is excellent, but there is a sense of cashing in on politics and the themes of social media. This really never works. Stick to fiction, folks.
