I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

Comic Book Review (5.5/10) “Mediocre”
All Star Batman #4 “My Own Worst Enemy Part 4” / “The Cursed Wheel Part 4”
Writer: Scott Snyder
Penciller: John Romita Jr.
Plot: Batman and Two-Face are still trekking across the country to try and get to Harvey’s destination. This time, Raptor has Batman’s back, and is helping him transport Two-Face. Also, the “Cursed Wheel” comes full circle as it ties in to the “My Own Worst Enemy” storyline.
I’m getting really tired of this story, and although there are some great scenes, I feel like Snyder is dragging on this story longer than it should be. At this point I really hope Snyder and creative finish up the story next issue. Some of the scenes also made no sense to me – if Batman is blinded by Two Face, and Raptor is there to help him, why would he not let Raptor fly the biplane if this mission is important enough for him to risk his life? If Batman really wants to get the job done, he would not take unnecessary risks. The story also adds new things to Bruce’s origin story and how he grew up with Harvey in an Arkham orphanage, but I always believed that Alfred Pennyworth raised Bruce as his substitute father figure after his parents died, and this essentially seemed to conflict with Bruce and Alfred’s back story. If Alfred really wanted to take care of Bruce why would he send him to an orphanage? Also I’m getting to a point where I feel the backup story does nothing for me and really wonder if it is even necessary in this book.
The only thing I really liked about this issue was Romita’s art. He does a really great job of illustrating action and explaining through his art how the action unfolds. I would say Romita’s strength is drawing action, and at least Snyder’s script has him drawing plenty of that. There are some cool action scenes in this issue, but the weird story telling scenes do not save it.
