4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 85 ratings

Alexandro Jodorowsky steps up to the challenge of the short graphic novel story format by collaborating with an international panoply of artists. A collection of Sci-Fi short stories all written by Alexandro Jodorowsky ( The Incal, The Metabarons ) and illustrated by talent from various countries and different graphic traditions. The thematic thread of these tales: an asteroid spawned from the destruction of a planet produces sounds (a howling shriek ) which, when crossing an inhabited world, creates a change or imbalance within it...

Mind blowing read and the illustrations are great. Too bad movie producers didn't bankroll this guy. Imagine the movies he could have made. Visionary.

Being the bond the peculiar mind if Jodorowsky. Each story is enriched by the talent of different artists, each artist draws a different planet, a sort of stelar map of styles; but Jodorowsky's writing is so peculiar that it drew more my attention than the art being as excellent as it was. Being short stories about planets going in some way wrong they are parables, what I felt a bit too when I saw Heavy Metal, the animated movie from 1981. In any case I liked it so much that got the second volume.

Bizarre, thought provoking, and pleasantly odd. The stories are some of my favorite from Heavy Metal magazine. All the stories are classic in theme.

Talk about the upside down! This term has become popular thanks to 'Stranger Things'. But this it's the real stranger things. Everything about this anthology is both freaky and disturbing without the need of shock value (ie, gratuitous violence or sex). You can even put this in the cosmic horror section. There's Lovecraftian madness, the inevitable result that comes from the terrifying epiphany that we are nothing more but mindless wanderers in a sea so big and unexplored. And because it is so vast, we strive to find (or give it) meaning. At the heart of this anthology is an even more powerful traveler whose light brings wisdom and infinite hopelessness. Is he a cosmic puppet too or is he still partially blind to this fact? This question is, as with most sci-fi of this nature, left to the reader to decide.
My only nitpick is some of the drawings and coloring which looked cheap and simple at times. Also, what's up with those Xenomorph species look alike? If looked like a knock-off? Granted, that story was cool but the artist could've made the creatures less Xeno-ish.
A great read for lovers of mind-bending/altering science fiction and comic book lovers.

This is a joyful romp through a bizarre inter space expanse. I enjoyed the time we spent, and will continue on into the next volume.

note. Very nice artwork the story was o.k.

Reúne algumas histórias curtas, com qualidade variável. Indicado para quem curte esse tipo de proposta. Vale a pena dar uma chance mas não espere nenhuma obra prima da nona arte.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Edition is useless

Edit:
This is an update on the below review as I was able to read it on an ipad. I'll leave the earlier one so people with a basic kindle don't go buying this. Rating updated too.
This is a patchy work unlike Jodorowsky's Incal and Metabaron, but still has some interesting ideas (which is mainly what you come for in a Jodorowsky comic when Moebius isn't associated with it). I like some of the stories and having read the second part too, I quite liked the whole collection.
Edit ends.

Older Review:
I hate to do this, but the low rating is only for the Kindle Edition. I hadn't ever read a comic on the basic Kindle I have and seeing that Amazon was selling a version specifically for this, I bought it, being a huge Jodorowsky fan. But it is mostly illegible. I don't see the point in having this for sale without a warning. Again, apologies to the artists for bringing the rating down for the book, but I can't post a review without a rating and I cannot really give it a good rating with any honesty.
