Review

LIBRARY JOURNAL -- When Alex receives the gift of Ada, a sophisticated android companion, he's initially turned off by the idea of living with a life-like robot woman waiting to obey his every command. But there's more to Ada than meets the eye, and after an encounter with an underground faction of rogue AIs dedicated to granting their kind sentience, Alex finds himself bucking both the law and societal norms by falling in love. With a carefully paced, intelligent script cowritten by Vaughn (Ruined) and Luna (The Sword) and Luna's deceptively simple illustrations, this intriguing sf manages to combine action, intrigue, big questions about what it means to be sentient, and a passionate romance born of two solitary souls finding unlikely solace in each other. VERDICT While fans who lean more toward the swashbuckling end of the sf spectrum might not find enough adventure here to be satisfied, readers who enjoy more adult, thoughtful speculative fiction are sure to be smitten.

Jonathan Luna crafts an engaging tale that challenges near-future quandaries
5 Stars
Jonathan Luna crafts an engaging tale that challenges near-future quandaries
Alex+Ada is at its core a love story, but it branches into many varying themes in a deftly subtle manner. Luna weaves together the fight for civil rights, sentience (the ghost in the machine), the role technology has in our lives, and the human relation chiefly, but you'll find other themes also. Our story follows the average American Alex Wahl, who receives a human replica android. Initially wary, he then grows on the idea of Ada bringing some change and excitement into his life. However Alex quickly is disappointed with her government limited functions, and hacks her into full sentience. From there, the story blooms into a tapestry of varying elements written in a believable and wonderful way. The cast of characters has good depth, the story engages the reader, and it truly is a modern masterpiece that makes readers think. Luna's artwork also deserves high praise, and this story is beautiful brought to life.Alex+Ada is an indie story many will enjoy, and is easily one of the best comics in the last decade. Truly a gem worth checking out if the genre interests you.

Marvel and DC fans, Image is coming for you. As a long time indy fan, Image just always has good books.

This is one of the most refreshing stories I've read during quarantine and I couldn't put it down. The best part is arguably the non-verbal communication from the art work. It's subtle, but easy to connect the dots of what is going on in this future reality.

Having recently seen the Neuralink demo with the pigs... everything here seems 100% believable in the future. Given the current social climate in the USA, this book is quite relevant and tackles several big issues head on. The characters are absolutely believable and have their distinct personalities... which is hard to find in today's media of lazy rehash of the same formulas.

Absolutely worth the price for the story, very memorable.

As for the book itself, it is bound very nicely with excellent covers. Opening it nearly fully, does not snap the spine like some hardcovers. This is not an item where I would recommend the TPB over HC (usually this is the case). Comes in shrinkwrap.

The book was good. The storyline was good until the end, then it was a total dud. It could have been really good but the end was a total disappointment. I donated the book to FGCU.

Alex lives in a world very like the one described in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. His TV flickers into life on his wall and wakes him up for work. A drone-like robot makes his coffee for him and brings it to him. He just does his day's work and then comes home and watches a bit of TV before bed. He just lost his fiance six months ago and he hasn't recovered. His friends try to cheer him up. They even have a birthday party for him. But he never expected the present his grandmother gave him...

Image Comics sent me a copy of this book to read for review (thank you). It has been published and you can grab a copy now.

This book really grabbed me. It's about a young man alone who has too much time to think. When his grandmother gifts him a female robot that will do all he asks, including having sex, he freaks. He's going to send her back. But once he talks to her, even though she's just a robot, he feels like it would be wrong to send her back. He keeps her. They get along. But he wishes she had a mind of her own. That's where the problems arise.

Since there was a robot revolution a few years ago, it's against the law to make robot sentient. He tries to find a way around it and does. When she's sentient, he falls in love with her. But someone rats on him and the cops are after them. They run but they don't get far. It looks hopeless, but the authors find a way to make it all work out.

I really enjoyed this read. I've Asimov's robot stories and others as I find them. This is one more to add to the group I could reread again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran comic, mejor edición!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice read but execution is rather... too simple.

When I got this book I had no expectations.

While this is not intended to be a review of the storyline, I found the idea interesting. The thing that bugged me the most with this book its the fact that the artist is using a lot of "copy/paste" in many scenes.

You will countless times notice that the person drawing the scenes often used the exact same panel/scene from the very previous ones and sometimes will spread that process over multiple panels and just change a few details.

I found this to be very annoying/lazy and it ended up distracting me from focusing on the story.

I really wanted to like this book way more but the drawings/art ended up getting the better of this experience.
