4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

Alena’s life is a living hell. Since she arrived at a snobbish boarding school, she’s been harassed every day by Philippa and the girls on the lacrosse team. But Alena’s best friend Josephine is not going to accept that anymore. Not from the counselor or the principal, not from Philippa, and not from anyone else at that horrid school. If Alena does not fight back, then Josephine will take matters into her own hands. There’s just one problem . . . Josephine has been dead for a year.

I Decided to read this book after i saw the movie of the same name. the movie was amazing, the book was just as good. while the author took some liberties in the movie with a couple of changed small things. overall the story was solid you really felt for Alena. i finished the book in one sitting, the art just made me keep reading to find out more. If you are into horror and tragedy this is the book for you.

Alena is a Swedish horror story about a bullied girl dealing with the death of her best friend... who is still hanging around with her.

I personally feel the film is a bit better but the comic is still worth checking out. It's been compared to Let the Right One In and while that's probably because both stories are from Sweden there are similar themes about bullying and friendship that resonate here. The art style is a bit cartoonish but still manages to convey the dark subject matter quite well. Some plot elements are predictable but others are genuinely surprising.

The story is more disturbing than outright scary and it's an acquired taste but I recommend giving it a try.

This book came in horrible condition. Clearly it’s been read and looked through several times. Wish I’d received a new copy like
I was led to believe I was.

This English adaption of the Swedish romantic horror graphic novel Alena is well worth checking out if you're looking for a thriller. Alena's the oddball out at a prep school, who lost her friend to suicide a year ago. Except her friend still haunts her to this day, the story falls into some predictable tropes, but there's also some twists to be had. Kim W. Andersson's artwork is great, and is expressive with a unique style. The characters can be a bit one-note, but the situations that unfold thrust them into dark and gruesome circumstances. If you're looking for a teen-centric suspenseful horror comic, Alena is well worth reading.

The best thing about it is it's cover. The story is worse then predictable, as all the things I'd imagine to happen were more interesting then what actually happened. And, as cool as the cover seems, the art inside of it seems lazy, rushed, at some pages even ugly.

Money badly spent.

This graphic novel follows the trials of a Swedish schoolgirl who is bullied at school. Her only friend seems to be somebody who has been dead a year but is rather good at "solving" problems. Bloody and gory... all in all, pretty cool.
