“...tells a story in a straightforward, clean manner that will keep you reading through one sitting.” —TIME Magazine

“Besides being beautifully drawn and intelligently, even intellectually, composed, it is archaeologically accurate—by those qualities it’s better than any film I’ve ever seen on Bronze Age Greece.” —Archaeology

“Has researched quite well the wide range of literature, art, and archaeology.” —American Journal of Archaeology

“Shanower draws on intensive archaeological research and his own uncanny psychological insight to depict an ancient world that is wholly, tragically human.” —New York Times Book Review

Review

LIBRARY JOURNAL -- Shanower's (Adventures in Oz) brilliant retelling of the Trojan War returns in this new volume collecting issues 1-9 of the ongoing series, this time rendered in full color by Dallaire (Black Cherry Bombshells). Rather than sticking to a straight adaptation of Homer's Iliad, Shanower relies on extensive research into the time period and seemingly every story associated with the war that inspired it, resulting in a tale that feels fresh and surprising despite starring a cast of characters readers have been acquainted with for thousands of years. We see Paris, the prince destined to bring doom to his people, living as a shepherd's son, as yet unaware of his true identity or royal blood. Here also is the warrior Achilles as a teenager bristling against his mother's attempts to keep him from the life of glory he craves.
VERDICT Filled with enough political machinations and symbolically laden visions of a war-torn future to sate the appetite of all graphic novels readers as well as Game of Thrones fans longing for fresh content with a scholarly attention to detail and keen psychological insight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Obra prima, realmente imperdível!

O autor trabalhou mais de uma década nesta coleção. Os quadrinhos foram desenhados baseados em fontes arqueológicas precisas, as vestimentas, os costumes, a comida... tudo isso remonta ao final da Era do Bronze, um mundo perdido para nós!

A nova edição colorida ficou fantástica! Infelizmente para mim, terei que recomprar os próximos volumes, conforme forem reeditados em cores. Recomendo que o leitor compre apenas este e aguarde os outros serem lançados na versão colorida.
