This is definitely a five star series for any science fiction lovers out there. It's got a good mixture of comic relief and mixes fantasy and science fiction perfectly. The ninth book really brings us further into the darkness that hides just under the veil of Academy City, so if you're a fan of comedy, some romance, humorous hijinks, science fiction and fantasy, this may be for you.

The Academy City spin off manga continues to amaze and delight as it leads us deeper into the Darkness of Academy City and its chief architect of evil Dr. Kihara Gensei.

Will Mikoto become level 6? will she ever get her boy? Stay tuned for the next issue!

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth comes out
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 15, 2014
While continuing her search for Misaka-10032, Mikoto is contacted by a mysterious girl who accuses her of interfering with her organisations plans but Mikoto has no idea what she is talking about. With the help of Saten and Kuroko, Mikoto finally manages to confront Misaki Shokuhou who finally decides to tell the truth behind what has being going on and reveal the real villain behind everything.

This ninth volume of the 'Railgun' manga begins the climax of this series version of the Daihaseisai arc as Mikoto finds out what is going on and tries her hardest to save her Sister. The events of the volume are very good with some good characters introduced and a lot of information revealed. The volume also includes some backstory for the Misaki that is actually a bit sad and shows us the motivations of the fifth most powerful Level 5 in Academy City. There is little in the way of action this volume (just a brief skirmish at the beginning) with much of the story being taken up with of the plot exposition but even with this there are still some very humorous moments throughout and the cliff-hanger at the end indicates that the next volume should very interesting.

The only real downside of the volume is a minor issue with Saten's side plot for people who haven't read the original light novels and that is that one character she meets knows her but we are never told how. I have only read the manga and seen the anime so I had to look her up myself but they apparently met in a side story that has yet to be adapted into either of those mediums. This is only a minor issue though and so shouldn't effect anyone's enjoyment of the volume.

The artwork in the volume is as good as it always is but some of the scenes towards the end of the volume are particularly well done. The translation remains as good as in previous volumes and although there are no translation notes, there are a, very, small number of explanatory side bars (although some of them are a little redundant - did we really need an explanation of what an Amazon is?).

The volume also includes four 4-koma comics as bonus content.

This was a great volume with a brilliant cliff-hanger at the end and it is easily worth a full five stars.
