Acclaimed creator Kaoru Mori's tale of life on the nineteenth-century Silk Road heads back to Amir and Karluk. In the year since his marriage, Karluk has grown a good deal, but Amir can't help but feel overprotective of her much younger husband. Karluk wants nothing more than to prove that he can be a strong and competent man--and he may soon have the opportunity to prove just that. Desperate for land to feed their flocks, Amir's former tribe prepares to attack her village with a fearsome arsenal of cannons and guns provided by their new allies. This time the Halgals are not interested in capturing Amir--no one is safe from their terrible assault!Crafted in painstaking detail, Ms. Mori's pen breathes life into the scenery and architecture of the period in this heart-warming, slice-of-life tale that is at once wholly exotic, yet familiar and accessible through the everyday lives of the characters she has created.

Kaoru Mori's previous series, Emma, about a maid and a gentleman in Victorian England, has been lauded by Library Journal and was named to the YALSA Great Graphic Novels list. A Bride's Story has only broadened her fan base in Japan and the U.S. with its elegant style and delicate story.

Our focus shifted back to something interesting. The last 2 vol were hard to get through and I was worried it was going to keep following the path of "humor". Thankfully though the story picked back up and once again I'm fully invested in whats going on once again.

Artwork still beautiful, but like my last reviews. Cover sleeve still almost as thin as tissue paper.

A Bride's Story is a beautifully written and illustrated manga series by Kaoru Mori. This sixth installment might a be a bit of a surprise to those following the story in that is more action paced and intense compared to the more mellow tempo of the previous volumes. It's also a bit more violent this time around, but not so much as to be excessive. It involves Karluk and his wife Amir, being warned of another attack by her bellicose family members, who made a failed attempt to cease her by force in Volume 2. This time, they have backup, and they're playing for keeps. With everything at stake, Karluk and Amir must help defend the village, or die trying. A must read for followers of the series.

This is a historical fiction novel set near the Mongolian Steepe and the Russia/Chinese boarder in the mid 1800’s. The artist puts insane painstaking detail into ever single panel reflecting the cultural obsession at that time and place with embroidery and carving. It is insanely beautiful and joyful to read. The story is quite domestic which I really enjoy but it is not an action manga if thats your goal.

Book came in rather fast, so I was kind of worried. The pages and book aren't damaged at all and are in great quality. Thank you.

historically breath-taking, artwork to die for, and a story as gentle as summer wind. the entire "Otoyomegatari" series is a worthy and worthwhile investment of even the most casual of manga/comic book readers.

I've been reading the bride's story series steadily, and have enjoyed every one. This one completes the twin's arch with a comedic weeding, and returns to the original bride (who married the boy) with an melencholic story of a hawk. A worthy read with a sharp change of pace for the last 3rd.

This volume really shakes up the idyllic pace of the series with loads of conflict and action. Absolutely riveting!

It is not only the fine art detailing of this graphic novel that has me hooked to the series, it is the interesting story line and warmth of characters and exotic locale that keeps me reading Mori's books. If you liked A Bride's Story, you will love her Emma series. Awesome.

Beautiful story and beautiful intricate art. Author brings the culture of the Caucasus region to life. I think this story would be a good starting point for people wanting to study that culture. The story is also makes good use of humour which helps with the pacing. Good book to re-read as a of of the detail she puts into her work is more noticeable on the second or third reading. Unfortunately due to the fact that the book is printed in black and white it can be hard to make out some of the often intricate details and occasionally that causes issues in understanding what is happening in the scene. I wish the whole book was as vividly colored as the covers are. I highly recommend reading this.
