It's just not Batman though is it, not the real one anyway and that's just the point of this second issue of DC's new shining star, Batman and Robin.
2 issues in and Morrison manages to break up the dynamic duo already, that's good going even for him and he does it with such ease.
Fast paced action against new foes Circus of the Strange start this issue off and we get Dick and Damian jumping into the fray in an effort to extract some vital leads from Mr Toad.
Hot headed, as a young Robin always seems to be, Damian dives right in to serve up some extreme brutality leaving Batman to clear up the stragglers as he moves on to the next victim, a fat man in a tutu no less who he beats till they pass out, no mean feat I would have thought !!
Batman/Dick already feels let down and a failure at not being able to instill some morality and teamwork into this wee scamp and confides in the sagely butler Alfred and here we clap and applaud his wise advice, you're not the real Batman so stop trying so hard to be him and just do the job at hand. At least we the reader know this position is only temporary, I mean come on you don't really think we're not going to get Bruce back do you?
Mr Quietly why do I always have to doubt you so, your artwork with it's quirks and idiosyncrasies could never fit characters such as Batman/Superman/X-Men, but they do and they shine like a beacon in a dark and barren landscape.
I will admit I read the story while paying little attention to the artwork on the first passover but when you go back again and take in the wonderous detail you put into every panel it makes this reader grin like the proverbial Cheshire cat.
