Since the events of
Final Crisis I have been anxiously awaiting the return of the Bat-books to my stack of comics to read. Even with all the hype surrounding Morrision's new
Batman and Robin series and Rucka's upcoming run on
Detective Comics, this book has been high on my "I cannot wait to read it" list. To see Dick Grayson finally step up as Batman (without Morrison writing) has caused a great deal of excitement for this Bat-fan.
With that said
CLICK TO SHOW SPOILER I am extremely disappointed in DC's timing. This book, which shows Dick Grayson actually making the decision to assume the mantle of Batman (and thus filling in the time between the end of Battle for the Cowl and the beginning of Batman and Robin) should have been released last week - before the release of Batman and Robin.
Yes, this does seem trivial. However, if DC is going to release SEVERAL bat-books in one month, effectively relaunching the series, then one would assume that the books would be released in chronological order. To me, it just makes sense.
Yes, as someone who has been reading bat-books for years, it easy for me to fill in the gaps and make inferences about chronology as necessary. However, what about the new readers - those who have seen this "relaunch" and feel that now is their time to begin reading about Batman? Should DC be concerned more with bringing in new business, or drawing the attention of long-time fans by prioritizing the pair of Morrision-Quitely?
It's just a simple question...
Nevertheless, I loved this issue. The story was everything I expected, and the art was very appropriate. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in this current run on
Batman.
