At first, I wasn't sure how interested I'd be in seeing Xavier basically rebuild his brain by revisiting and re-examining scenes and people from his past, but after 3 (4?) issues of Legacy I'm starting to see Xavier in a whole new light. I won't riddle this with spoilers, but i will say that I learned, or should I say understood, more about Charles Xavier after reading this one issue than I have in 15+ years of being an X-Men fan and what's more, I feel like I'm taking this journey of discovery with Xavier rather than watching from my couch.
We get concentrated shots (and by that i mean concise, meaningful and well presented) of insight about his relationships with his father, Casandra Nova, his son David (aka Legion), Jean Grey, and finally, a shocking revelation about another figure from his childhood that literally made me shout out loud with surprised excitement. There's also a good bit of mystery introduced in this issue. There's an unknown psychic trying to force their way into Juggernaut's head for some reason, and Xavier himself is being stalked by an unknown group of assassins which sees Xavier use his powers in a very interesting way.
Great story, great writing, great art – I'm sorely temped to give this Book of the Week.
