How did Oliver Queen become the superhero Green Arrow? What was he like before that? How did he get his code name? Writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock answer these questions in the DC Comics six issue mini series Green Arrow: Year One.
As chapter one opens Oliver is at the North Pole on one of his many adventures. At this point in time Oliver is a boozing, womanizing, adrenaline junkie who doesn't have a purpose in life. According to Oliver's companion and employee, Hackett, Oliver has "enough money to do whatever you want with your life but instead you're just spinning around, looking for a direction. There's something missing in you, Ollie and until you figure out what that is, nothing's [] ever going to be enough to fill the hole."

Green Arrow: Year One is an engaging, well-written story with writing that flows which makes reading the story effortless. At the start, Diggle presents us with a rough character who is clearly spoiled and without boundaries. By the end of the story Diggle gives us a character that, while still a billionaire playboy, now cares about the world around him.
The artist, Jock, has given Oliver a different look compared to the one used by former Green Arrow artists like Phil Hester and ....
