Lynda Barry is moving her comics online in response to the loss of weekly newspaper clients. I've been reading Barry's comics online for years now, but it startled and saddened me to learn that she has trouble making a living through the newsweeklies.

Tip for comic-book collectors: you can find back issues of a comic cheap if it's a) non-continuity and b) for girls. That's how I stocked up on old marriage-themed Lois Lane comics to display at my wedding reception a few years ago.

I love comic strips, even though the daily strip is among the most limiting of artistic formats. I like to think of a comic strip as something like haiku, a single moment or observation captured in ink. Hopefully funnier, though.
