Before I bought this I knew that this series wasn't going to tie-in with anything else that Marvel Comics was doing, which I liked. I'm not a huge Wolverine fan, but after this I am. I lot of people on here hate the story line, but I think it works. Savage Island is a mysterious place, where dinos, magic and alien technology exist. So it really doesn't faze me that Wolverine wakes up not knowing how he got there. However, the chief explains the origins of the island and in there, could be a clue to who sent Wolverine and the other's to the Island. What I really loved about this story is that Wolverine gets the bad karma. He tries to be the hero, but gets put into these hilarious situations where the Island just kicks his butt. Also towards the end there's another marvel character that also gets his butt handed to him by a gorilla and a fish. Enough said. I enjoyed reading this, because it was funny and action packed, with good Wolverine kill scenes. Also the way Frank Cho drew Shanna and made her the butt kicker tied this story altogether.

This book opens with Wolverine finding himself in the dinosaur and mosnter filled Savage Land. From there the plot of the book is fairly simple, Wolverine and his fellow castaway the lovely Shanna the She Devil try and get to a temple to shut down a jamming device that prevents rescue. I did like how once the mystery of the island starts to reveal itself, the tribesmen turn out to be completely correct as to whats going on. There are two other cameos towards the end, and I do admit that Amadeus Cho was actually rather funny. I would recommend this to anyone who is just looking for a fun little wolverine story, no big revelations or wold changing events. Its a simple Wolverine fighting dinosaurs story, with plenty of laughs. I found Wolverine saying cripes every other page hilarious, and Shanna has a few moments that made me laugh.

Frank Cho is one of my favorite artists working in comics today. The insane level of detail he puts into his 2-page spreads, his classic, Gustave Dore inspired lines and of course, his curvy women, are all amongst the best in sequential art, ever. I would give this five stars on the art alone, but unfortunately the story here is painfully stupid. Cho's humor has always been juvenile, but while it works on a strip like Liberty Meadows, here it's just tiresome. Honestly, this story would have worked without any dialogue at all. The physical comedy works great - but the dialogue and "plot" just seem like bad filler. While Shanna is an acceptable foil to Logan, other characters like Man-Thing and the Hulk appear simply because Cho wanted to draw them. There is also a weird set up at the end for a "new Galactus" type alien being that Marvel hasn't done anything with it. I'd recommend this for teenage boys or fans of Cho's artwork, but long-time Wolverine fans or comic reading adults in general will find this lacking the depth (I like to imagine) they are looking for.

Wolverine by Frank Cho. So much fun! To be honest, was just in it for Shanna but it’s pretty good!

I've never been a huge Wolverine fan - he's become kind of a joke over the last couple of decades - but I was sampling all of the new Marvel NOW! titles and I couldn't help but enjoy this one. This is very much a "guilty pleasure" kind of read, but that's one of the things that makes this title as a series so refreshing. Different creative teams telling short arcs that don't feel the pressure to tie into current crossovers or continuity allow for more freedom... and more fun. This first arc, written and illustrated by Frank Cho, is just that: fun. This is Wolverine, in the Savage Land, fighting dinosaurs alongside Shanna the She-Devil, whose leopard bikini leaves little to the imagination. I remember a lot of reviews dismissing this as juvenile fantasy, but really, not every comic book can be Watchmen. Lighten up, have some fun, and sink your claws into a roaring good time. (The upcoming Volume 2, by the way, collects the Zeb Wells / Joe Madureira arc, which is even cooler.) I much prefer this to the Cornell / Davis Wolverine title, which lost me after only a few issues. This series has a nice "tune in, tune out" format that doesn't require reading every issue - just go for the artists or writers you like, you can leave the rest (like the recent Jock storyline, which was awful).

Ignore the negative reviews. I thought this first volume was great! Artwork was awesome but so was the story. Really entertaining and humorous. Perhaps it didn't get really deep, but it made up for it in humor and adventure. A few surprises thrown in. And Cho really knows how to draw the ladies ;) I like that it wasn't too serious because sometimes that makes it boring. I think it will get more in depth as it goes along. I want to say more but it would be spoilers. Looking forward to more volumes!

Like the Reviewers before me, this story really never wraps up and doesnt have a "To be contnued at the end" so that makes me wonder if anything will come out of this. I also had no idea that Amedeus Cho was the 2nd character that feel into the savage land without explanation until he referred to something he did as "Cho-Time", i though it was Pete Wisdom. Hulk Shows up to then get eaten by a water monster so who knows how he gets out, Wolverine Also said "Cripes" waaaaay to many times in this story.....Without spoiling the end, this story just seems that it was made to introduce another character for the first time in Marvel NOW. IF this story continues then i might look back on it and say ooooohh ok but unfortunately i dont do single issues anymore and i cant look online because i dont wanna read any spoilers so ill just have to wait until vol.2 drops.

I loved this comic! The story was fun and the artwork is Gorgeous. Its also quite funny in parts. What I like about this volume though is you don't need to be an avid comic or wolverine reader to understand the plot. (Unlike some marvel titles cough.. ahem X Men). So a casual reader can just jump straight in and read it for fun! That's what this comic is,fun!

I really dislike the new marvel hardcovers. They feel and look cheap when compared with their old ones.
The story itself is fun and looks very pretty, but don't be expecting the greatest story. I love Frank Cho's art however so for me that was worth the purchase.

No problem!

(1) cf. notamment '
Frank Cho Women: Selected Drawings & Illustrations ' et ' Apes and Babes: The Art Of Frank Cho Book 1 '.
(2) Quelques noms ?
