Celanawe and Conrad return from slaying the fox to find out that Em has been killed by the healer Eberochre. As retribution, Luthebon executed Eberochre and gives his pelt to Celanawe. Heartbroken, and left with Em's journals of the history of the Black Axe, Celanawe and Conrad depart on a journey back to mice territories.
