In one of the best stories in the series, Barnabas and Quentin are threatened by an avenging golem constructed with the ashes of Mordecai Collins, who lived in England in the 14th century. The 600-year-old golem awakens to destroy the "evil" Collinses once every 100 hundred years, concurrent with the appearance of Collins's Comet in the night sky.
